SEMESTER TWO
READING
Reading has been slow this semester, with a variety of personal affairs arising that, unfortunately, required immediate attention. But it did happen, to an extent. I helped several authors online revise their fictional works, of which have been published on Ao3 with decent response. My Hairspray research proved helpful in every regard. It gave me a lot more to build off of instead of having my only character point be 'the pregnant one.' I had a very long conversation with my director one afternoon after rehearsal for the day was done, all about how a young girl in my (Brenda's) shoes would have been treated after that in 1962. I would have been more than ostracized, at 18 and pregnant without a husband my life was officially over. The Corny Collins show would have been all I had left, literally everything has been destroyed because I was a little too free-wheeling. That was a very interesting study to take part in, which did help with the comparison to the happenings in Bombingham, and while I never got around to finishing that paper, I feel good about the work that happened as a result of that. |
WRITING
Creative writing continued to be my outlet, especially with all the family crap going on. Things would get less than easy at home and I'd find myself running to my online friends to write literally anything so that I could just run from reality for a while. Not the smartest thing, no, but it was what was best for me at that moment. Someone actually accused me of taking their portrayal of Toothless, so I dropped that account. Which made me a little sadder than I thought it would have. He was a very fun character to write, and actually, as a farewell to the people who worked with me and helped me and all that jazz on his account I wrote a rather long, heartbreaking farewell. It was about Toothless coping after Hiccup died, and Toothless aging through several generations of Haddocks, and finally dying as his great-x7-grandson was born. Who was named Hiccup and given a dragon of his own and blah blah blah. I'll have to see if I can find it and post it here. Besides that hiccup (HA) everything's going well. I never did find the time to write that comparative essay for Bombingham, but I have extensive character notes on that (Image to come - iPhone ain't cooperating.) |
Quarter three
Reading
Reading this semester has been slower than I would have liked, but it's still happening! So that's a plus. This quarter I have read a variety of literature in several "published independent works online." I've also been reading books aimed at improving my understanding of events in the early 1960s, in an attempt to better understand the environment of Hairspray. Here's a small list of those books I've read so far: Bombingham - Anthony Grooms Dave vs The Monsters - Staked - Kevin Hearne Warriors Cats: - Erin Hunter Into the Wild Fire and Ice Forest of Secrets Rising Storm Dangerous Path Darkest Hour |
Writing
My writing has continued, as always, with fiction writing and roleplaying. Unfortunately, due to a lack of friendly people on the internet I'm taking a break from Hael, because as long as people are being jerks on there she doesn't seem to want to come out to play at all. Toothless comes and goes, but I do keep up with him, when the want for more... artistic? writing arises. He's the hardest to write by far, because I can't use dialogue to explain what he's thinking, he can only be communicated by body language. And he's a dragon, so it's SO MUCH HARDER to actually communicate what's happening in his head. It's a lot of fun though! I did create a new account for the roleplay writing, a Jedi from the prequel series of Star Wars (which, before you say anything - no they don't hold a candle to the original trilogy, but they are a gold mine for world building and expansion.) I love writing for Shaak Ti - she's still a very formal character, with a lot of knowledge that I don't have, which provides wonderful opportunity for researching skill building. You can check out her writing at the button below! |

Writing
Below are some samples of writing I've done so far. These pieces are by commission, meaning people send me requests for a story line with characters, setting, and a basic plot outline, and I write it. Also a petition that I wrote earlier in the year in protest of wifi restrictions. I didn't end up turning it in, but it was work the experience.
Below those, is a link to my roleplay blogs. One of which is for an original character (meaning one I completely made up) and another for a character from a movie franchise that I'm still working on developing.
